Nominations and Selections

In its report of January 2005, OMG states,

The EF theory of change hinges upon the notion that the program identifies individuals from around the world who will be influential in the future, and intensifies or strengthens their potential impact through the Fellowship experience and via access to the EF network and relationships.

This statement speaks to a key piece of the puzzle: identifying the right candidates for the Fellowship. The nomination and selection processes are crucial to the success of EF in achieving its mission. The criteria for consideration for both the international and U.S. programs are:

•Five to 10 years of exemplary leadership with a preferred age range of 32 to 45

•Demonstrated impact in the individual’s professional field

•Active leadership in broader professional/community activities

•Integrity, energy, and motivation to make a difference

•Breadth of perspective and enthusiasm for continued learning

•Likelihood of contributing to the EF network

•Demonstrated potential for advanced leadership and societal impact

Also given great attention is the diversity of candidates by profession, gender, and geography to encourage interaction across borders and professional sectors. Identifying candidates is the responsibility of local nominating committees in 48 countries around the globe, plus four regional hubs (Philadelphia, New England, Research Triangle [North Carolina], and St. Louis) and nationwide recruitment focused on agriculture in the United States. These nominating committees comprise alumni Fellows and other prominent individuals from government, business, social services, science and technology, academia, and the arts. The participation of nonalumni committee members helps ensure transparency and the casting of the widest net possible in identifying potential candidates.
